DirectX 11 for Windows Vista/DirectX 11 for Windows XP is an update to Microsoft's graphics acceleration for Windows and providers updates to Pixel Shaders, Direct3D, DirectSound, DirectX Media and DirectSetup. The 11 update also providers for a smoothing gaming experience for a number of titles and is required by many modern 3D games. DirectX 11 also introduces support for tessellation, improving multithreading support and can take advantage of multi-core processors and better computing of shaders.

This version of DirectX is not officially support on older operation systems before Windows Vista, so Windows XP users aren't so lucky.
If you're using Windows XP, check out DirectX 9.0C. This version is for Windows Vista only.
Users running Windows 7 already have a version higher than DirectX 11.
DirectX 11 Update is licensed as Freeware for Windows (32-bit and 64-bit) operating system / platform from components without restrictions. DirectX 11 Update 11 is available to all software users as a free download (Freeware).
Compatibility with this software may vary, but will generally run fine on Microsoft Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows XP. A separate x64 version may be available from Microsoft.
